Safety

Each of our schools maintains a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan that outlines procedures for a variety of situations, including medical emergencies, fires, and other potential incidents. These plans are developed in collaboration with local police, fire, and emergency management officials and are practiced through regular drills.

For security reasons, not all procedures are shared publicly in detail, but families can be assured that our schools follow established safety protocols and work closely with local first responders to maintain a safe learning environment.

District Protocols for Responding to Threats

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. When any threat is reported, the district follows established protocols in coordination with law enforcement to ensure a thorough and appropriate response.

  1. Immediate Assessment and Safety Response
    • School administrators promptly investigate all reported threats.
    • Immediate steps are taken to ensure the safety of students and staff within the school.
    • Central Office is notified

  2. Notification of Law Enforcement
    • All threats are reported to our Student Resource Officers/Weymouth Police Department.
    • The police work in partnership with the school to assess the situation and determine next steps.

  3. Family Engagement
    • The parents/guardians of the student(s) involved are contacted promptly.
    • School and, when appropriate, law enforcement officials speak directly with the family to gather information and ensure student safety.

  4. Home Safety Checks (When Necessary)
    • The Weymouth Police Department may conduct a home visit to verify that the student does not have access to weapons or other unsafe materials.

  5. Determination of Consequences and Supports
    • The district follows its code of conduct when determining appropriate disciplinary action.
    • Support services may also be provided to address the student’s needs and prevent future concerns.

  6. Communication with the School Community
    • Families may be notified when there is a situation that impacts the school community.
    • Communication will provide as much relevant information as possible while maintaining student privacy.

  7. Confidentiality Requirements
    • Due to student privacy laws, specific details regarding individual students, including discipline, cannot be shared publicly.
    • The district is committed to transparency while also complying with all legal confidentiality requirements.
